THE BIG BIG BIG BANG
While in prision, Hannibal learns a lot about himself. He realizes that his anger won't help him much in prison and he quickly learns he's not the toughest cookie on the block. Hannibal witness a lot of conrupt things in jail to the point he almost thought he was still on the southside of Paris Island. Even with his anger control, Hannibal, not one to back down from any one gets into several fights with rival gang members. This is only hurting Hannibal chance at an early release and he decides to focus his energies on other things such as reading and educating himself in preparation of his future release.
Hannibal begins to humble himself and befriends an older inmate Abdul KhaLiQ an african american muslim many refer to as the Wise One. He who teaches Hannibal the importance of wisdom, knowledge, and understanding. Hannibal eventually converts to nation of Islam while in prison. We goes by the name The Wise Son a play on KhaLiQs name and a title Hannibal promises to live up to. Hannibal now known as Wise Son is released from Prison and attempts to changes his life around by getting a legal job and providing for his family. That's a lot easier than it sounds. Lark has developed a serious drug addiction leaving Edmond in custody of Wises Mother, Esme. Wise begins his gang activities a new. However this time he creates a sub division of the PI Bloods of gangster whom studie the belief fo Islam.
In 1993, the leaders of each gang decided to settle their grievances once and for all in a massive "gang bang" confrontation dubbed the "Big Bang." Word of the confrontation eventually reached Dakota's police department. Mayor Jefferson ordered them to spray every gang member present with an experimental tear gas laced with a radioactive marker that would allow the police to track the participants down later. The mayor was hoping that this would boost her reputation for being "tough on crime."
However, the gas also contained a mutagenic compound called "quantum juice" (or "Q-juice"). Most of those exposed to it - police included - died on the spot. The rest mutated, some being deformed, some gaining unusual abilities in the process. Others not personally involved in the conflict also became mutated as well. The survivors were dubbed "bang babies." The mayor disavowed any involvement. The survivors went on to become superheroes and supervillains that continued to roam the city of Dakota for years to come. The survivors of two gangs - the Paris Bloods and Force Syndicate - formed the core of the Blood Syndicate, a gang of bang babies which claimed Paris Island as their turf
